The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman
This was an interesting novel, as with all of Alice Hoffman's books. The content from start to finish was capitvating. Alice Hoffman spins a tale the complexities of the human spirit, mind, body, and heart. Throughout the novel, as a reader, you are aware of the fact that each character searches for meaning. As with any novel you watch the progression, or regression of each character, as a reader we want to see change, a transformation. Some change for the good, some change for the worse, all with the context of finding self in the stream of life. There is a conflict of duty, obligation, and living a life that is selfish and actually self destructive. Family ties, living up to expectations, stories within stories, all held me captivated from the very beginning until the very last page. Nothing is what it seems in a Hoffman novel. Rich in folklore, this novel dabbles within the magical realm that all Hoffman novels have. Highly recommended read!
